Very nice captures. I really like the blurred backgroud with such nice detail on the subject. Beautiful work.

Very nice pb, colors and exposure are excellent. You must have about a million varieties of birds around there Seems you always post a different species.

Thank you Jadara. And if the pics made you smile at yourself too, all the better.

Thank you Fred. Increasingly I try to get myself into the position - direction of light and background - that I hope will work for the shot and then just lay down, wait, wait and wait and hope one of these curious beauties will walk onto the "set". When it works, it works well. But when it does not, there are only soiled clothes to account for the attempt.

BigUp and thanks "Dad". These were all shot as NEF [Raw] on Nikon D300 + Sigma 150-500mm and processed using Capture NX2:
1] Wattled lapwing - @350mm f/6.0 1/160s ISO 800 about 20m while laying on the floor
2] Crowned lapwing - @450mm f/6.3 1/100s ISO 800 about 30m while laying on the floor
3] Redknobbed coot - @380mm f/6.3 1/320s ISO 400 about 10m away handheld crouched

And I guess I should add that I got into position and just waited nothing less than 15-20mins for each shot.

Thank you PrimeTime. I'm thankful we dont have that many bird species as I may never get around to capturing as many as I 'd like to! In all, there are approximately 850-950 bird species in Southern Africa. And although I am in the city - Johannesburg - we are fortunate that the area is one of the largest man-made forests int he world. So besides being at approximately 1.4km above sea level, we are spoilt for choice.
