Default Is This Junk?

I was on a business trip to Florida last week and took my camera along. It rained pretty much every day but between storms I managed to take this 2.5 second exposure from outside the hotel one night at about 10pm. I have showed it to a couple of people as I like it quite a lot. However, the reactions I have received have been only so-so. Is this a good shot or am I biased and it really is junk?

It's a beautiful shot....the negative reactions you've gotten stem from jealousy, I think! It's quite artistic....If you rotated it 90 degrees and cropped it, it would almost look like a Rorscach (spelling?) inkblot, but with lovely color.

Certainly not junk! I like it. The colors and reflections are great.

exposure and color are awesome! Although, you may get a better response if your horizon was not in the middle of the photo. ???

Well, belated welcome to Florida - hope you come back soon. It is a nice shot. I think if there were more color (and different) it would improve it greatly. I know you can't add what is not there but it looks like you had some great light behind the trees. If you would have made your exposure longer and increased the aperature it would have brought out that color a bit more. But it is definately not junk.

Certainly not junk and I like the colors and reflections you have captured. I would crop out the top and bottom to improve the composition some, but that is just MO. Remember the ole saying, one man's junk is another man's treasure and this photo is not junk to begin with. If you like it that is all that really counts.

That shot is definitely not junk. Any properly exposed night exposure is worth checking out. And this one has character! THANKS for sharing it with us. And don't worry about lukewarm reactions. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- and this is a beauty of a night photo.

Go with your own feelings about your shots. That is a great shot and well composed for a 2.5 second shot. You should not let others give you the so,so. I think you did an outstanding job. Keep up the Good work.
