Default Freedom Isn't Free - Memorial Day Tribute

Yesterday I went out to see the 2400 crosses on display that represent the soldiers that have fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each cross bears the individual name of each lost soldier. It is really a moving site to behold and very humbling. I thought that it was sad that while I was there for about 45 minutes that not another sole was there to pay any respects. It was so quiet and lonely. I would think that for Memorial Day and all more people would have paid a visit. I am glad I did! These were taken in the blazing sun but I still think they came out pretty nice.

Freedom isn't free

Freedom isn't free

I know this cross is blown out in the sun but I still loved the shadow effect on the ground. For seeing 2400 hundred together was moving but to remember that each one was an individual that was loved by many.
Freedom isn't free

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and took a moment to reflect on the meaning of the day.

See, full sun can be your friend! Great photographs. And it is true - freedom is not free...

Has all the great elements....lines, patterns, shadows, evocative subject, DOF........great shooting......too bad no one was there... alot of effort was put into this memorial. I saw a group standing in a large circle in the military section of our main cemetery conducting a prayer service of some kind.

Thank you for sharing these. We sometimes forget how we obtain the freedom that we enjoy.

Thank you all very much. These are placed in a town called Salida, CA. right next to Modesto, CA. where I live.
Yes, sometimes the sun can be our friend. Just have to know to keep her to your backside and adjust when needed.
I also really like #3, I liked the uniform lines and the uniform shadows in front of each. I thought it was a nice angle.
Thank you all for looking and commenting. I am glad they touched you as well.
