Arrow WARNING: if you fear heights don't look.

The Valley

This is a view from the Talkeetna mountain range across a section of the Matanuska Valley, which is the size of West Virginia, to the Chugach mountain range. If you view this in the large size you can see a cloud of glacial silt being blown from the Knik Glacier across the river flats. Also the town of Palmer, a small farming community which is world renown for growing giant vegetables due to the excellent soil conditions and long sunny days, is to the left. Hope you enjoy.

Wow what an amazing view, it's so hard for me to come to grips with the scale of the photo. Great shot and thanks so much for sharing.

I fear heights, but this is so beautiful that it is well worth the look. I think it is more heights from the edge of a building with nothing to support you, or a ferris wheel type height I am afraid of though. I can say that I have driven through West Virgina once and those roads along the side of a mountain are something else! This is wonderful! Were you hiking? Just wondering where you were to capture such a breath taking view. Ri

Thanks teresa, try viewing the larger version for a better idea of scale. The Matanuska-Susitna county is 24,000 square miles in area.

Thanks beachcobmer, the views are endless. My daughter had her wedding ceremony on this mountain top accompanied with bagpipers. It was very impressive to hear the sounds of a bagpipe echoeing off the rockwalls of the surrounding peaks.

Such a rugged looking place! Would love to see Alaska firsthand...never talked to anyone who went there who disliked the placed.....wouldn't live there due to the weather but they were entranced by the natural beauty of the area. Great shot by the way!
