I’ve been a ‘wanderluster’ since I could walk.
These days, I get many, many miles of windshield time from my job. Some miles are vastly boring/frustrating. Some are not. If my site schedule works out right, I can get off the beaten track and wander. Before I head out, I check out Yahoo maps for surrounding areas I may want to get off to. Thursday, I visited Sierra Army Depot. Herlong, CA. ALMOST the middle of nowhere. It’s an Army tank/APC mothball/strip/rebuild/scrap base. (NO cameras allowed on base. DRAT!!!) ACRES of Abrams M1A1’s, 2’s etc.; all parked neatly, waiting for a call… No, as a civilian contractor, you are NOT allowed to wander. Thanks for asking, though… Finished work early afternoon. Yahoo pointed me to: Pyramid Lake. Hey, it was kinda mostly on the way home…I just HAD to go check it out… Driving through a flat, scrub covered desert north of Reno…mehhh. Coming over the last rise and seeing 30 MILES of lake was breathtaking, to say the least. The Indian history just REEKS out of the hills around there. I stayed for the afternoon/early eve. It was worth it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More/bigger pics on Flikr.

Thanks, folks.
Fred: there's some serious fish in them waters. 10-12 pound cutthroats. I saw buckets of fisherman when I was there.

Very cool. I have known for a long time that Pyramid is a cutthroat trout mecca. I will just have to go there. That's all there is to it.
