Default Evening Magic....

It's cool how the evening turns an ordinary scene into something special. Kind of like...

Magic!

Funnel Cake anyone? The following images were captured on the final evening of
the 2009 Wichita Riverfest.

Night Time Treats.

The view across the Douglas Avenue Bridge. The bridge is closed and everyone is anxiously waiting the start of the 1812 Overture and then the fireworks!

The Douglas Avenue Bridge

Time for one last egg roll!

Eggrolls On Wheels

Then, just at the right moment, in perfect timing with the Tchaikovsky master piece...
The Howitzers fire!

IMG_9958
note: The cannons used were U.S. Army 75mm Pack Howitzers. So named because in theory, they could be disassembled and hand moved if necessary. In theory anyway.

Hope you enjoy the images, it was a great night! More to come!

Very good, crisp night shots! I can't wait for the fair so I can get a funnel cake!

Night shots like this are pretty tricky. Yours are sharply focused. You did a good job of showing the atmosphere. You can almost feel the crush of people. The vibrant colors in the night are just great.

Thanks lindyannajones. I had a great time just walking around and snapping the shutter.
The cannons were on a tripod, everything else was hand held. Image Stabilization lenses
are THE BOMB!

I love that cannon. Really great shot of the fire belching out of the muzzle!
