Default More Kentucky horses

It is always a treat each Spring to see the new additions with their mothers.....a bonus if they gallop together.

DSC_4666

This is a shot just before the mare and foal begin to gallop and even though the other foal's mom is nearby, the frame makes it look as though the 2nd foal is a forlorn orphan.

DSC_4656

Sort of like the above shot...sort of looks as though the 2nd foal was not invited and is depressed.

let's go for a run

These are not twins...part of the group was moving to another grassy spot for more to eat.

let's go for a run

Nice shots of some beauties, Patrick. I was heading out toward La Grange taking 42 and drove through thoroughbred territory in Goshen yesterday. I reached for where I normally keep my Nikon and.... I forgot it!! DOH! I could just scream. There were some marvelous shots... gone.

Love the first one Patrick. Isn't this just the best time of the year, I love seeing all the animals with their babies. It's an instant Awe, and puts a smile on my face. My husband thinks I am a fruit cake, but I can't help it. Spring is just that way for me. A new start. Great shots. Kentucky sure looks beautiful. I hear you get some amazing wildflowes growing down there. If thats true, can't wait to see what you find! Ri

Damn Gary! I know that feeling all too well......makes you feel sick to your stomach. It will be more difficult to keep the camera with us during the hot summer months...just riding along in the car....I guess I will have to take mine into work, put it in a filing cabinet and then go retrieve it when I go to lunch.....that's when I take the vast majority of my pictures

Oh Patrick, I am so jealous right now. If not a bit bitter, but I still love you man. This is one of my things to photograph. Don't we all have a list (maybe just mental)? This is on mine. I so much want to photograph some running horses. I have been talking to my mom about this very subject. Looks like you have some gorgeous models and settings here. I don't think I can compete with these but I am willing to give it a shot. I think these are all just beautiful! Very well done my friend!

forlorn orphan
Sad to say but my mom does have a forlorn orphan =(
The mama was rescued by the SPCA from a very bad situation. My mom does fostering for the SPCA as she has tons of land and lots of fattening green grass. The mama just wasn't strong enough when she gave birth and didn't make it
She couldn't get any other mare to accept him so she is taking care of him. One the good side she has an old pony (my daughter's pony) that has taken to him and has become his foster dad LOL
He keeps the poor foal from getting lonely and has been helping to teach it how to graze. We think the little guy is going to make it but you know how it is with foals with no mama =(
I just posted a photo of him on my flickr account along with a few "sort of decent shots" I got yesterday of my mom's horses.

Patrick, I've always loved horses, and I still ride every chance I get, which isn't nearly often enough....and you've made me want to seek these majestic creatures out again, very soon.....oh great, I really need another expensive hobby!!!!

The last one especially is close to my heart. Just a beautiful series.

We have lots of horses in our area. I live in cowboy country. But not as pretty a scenery as you do. Probably more dirt and wild west look then gorgeous green rolling hills like you have.
I have been MIA, both kids have been sick (strep throat and high fevers) so you know how that goes. Priorities change and the camera gets put away for a few days. I am having withdrawal though.
They should both be good in a day or two once the medications kick in. Then I can get back to learning.
