Default I dont know how to work my wide angle?

My wonderful husband bought me a wide angle lens for my first mothers day... LOVE HIM!
but i can figure out what im doing wrong... I keep getting these shawdows at the bottom...
I am so just a mom with fancy equiptment so please be gentle with your explanations...

I'd guess that the onboard flash is causing the lens to make the shadows that you see? Do you get a shadow when not using a flash?

Yes, that looks like the onboard flash causing the lens to cast a shadow on the image. Have you got an external flash? The increased height of an external flash mounted on the top of the camera can usually resolve this problem.
