Default Flowers Riot in California

Blink. Rub your eyes. Blink. "Are my eyes deceiving me?" you think. Here's the cause of the confusion--a swath of bright flowers covering the side of the hill. A wide swath. Imagine a city block or two with flower ribbons of orange, pink, purple, yellow, white, gold, rose rolling down the hill and out of sight. The Flower Fields of Carlsbad, California is in full bloom and features the Tecolote Ranunculas in every color imaginable. Here's a sample.

The Flower Fields

The Carlsbad Ranch has also accumulated several antique John Deere and Case tractors and are used to pull wagons that tour the property. I've included a shot of of one of these old beauties. I wasn't quite tall enough to get the entire tractor in my shot, so I cut off the top of the steering wheel. To compensate, I've added a little sky and cloned in the top of the wheel. Thank you, photoshop.

Well, you did the farm justice. Beautiful job Lindy... Just like I remember it. The tours are kind of fun. We walked around a lot too. I'll have to find my photos and post a few. Thanks for sharing these!

oh my .. flowers galore !!! .. what is it about flowers that lift the spirits high? .. your display here has certainly done that to me .. and thank you for including a John Deere tractor photo .. that image cannot be any more Americana than the way you framed it with the painting of an American flag in the background .. outstanding as always

Thanks, Hezakia. The fields are on a slope so you can easily see the bands of colors from the freeway. You really have to work to keep your eyes on the highway because the sight is so stunning!

Oh good. I was hoping you would like them, Fred. My favorite "band" was the whites and the golds. By all means, share your photos.

Michelle, it was like being on flower uppers! I snapped for about an hour and then, on a dime, felt overwhelmed and had to leave. Flower overload! Do put the Flower Fields on your dance card.

Kxvet, Aside from the colors being so bright and vivid, the flower is layer after layer of tissue thin wavy petals. Oh, gosh, they are so pretty!

Amen! Flowers do lift one's spirit, don't they? The old tractors are so photographable. I thought the American flag was a nice touch, too.

This is what it looks like from the highway. While it not a good photo, it gives you a little sense of what it's like to "come across a field of flowers". Pretty amazing!

And, Beach, you can see the ocean from there, too. Scented. Yes. Warm but not too warm. Yes. A joy? Most definitely. Thanks.
