Default Opening Salvos From The Wichita Riverfestival 2009

Hello everyone,
It's May, that means it's Wichita River Festival time. Friday was the Sundowner Parade and that was just the beginning of the ten day event. I will try and post a few each day this week. Visit my flickr page for more images.

Our first image is of the river itself. It is the Arkansas river (pronounced: Are-Kansas here in
Kansas) Because of the rain, the river is way up. There should be a board walk, but it is underwater.

River Level

I wandered the area around the parade, in search of a good shot or two. I found this fountain water fall and of course, a boy playing in the water. I do believe that is standard with this model. :o)

Playing In Water

One of the pieces erected to beautify the city are several spiral works on the Douglas Avenue Bridge. the bridge is closed through portions of the ten day event and is a major pedestrian pathway.

Bridge Art

Last but not least, an artistic work. Captured is the image of parade watchers setting over a man made stream, flowing in front of one of the city office buildings.

Reflecting Life

There you have it, my installment for today. The festival will be active all week. Of course, it will really crank up next weekend. Fireworks, concerts and lots of fun and food!

Well, this looks like a fun event. I'll look forward to your next installment. I especially like your last shot and the abstract quality of the reflection.

Thanks Vin and Lindyanna,

I had a lot of fun Friday. I thought I had something special with the last image, but wasn't sure until I got home and put everything on the computer. I was happy the reflection image turned out. It just goes to show ya, "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while."
