Default Ducks a landing...

A few shots of Mallard Ducks landing on my local duck pond. Kind of funny how they do it (almost like they're completely out of control). I have more than I can show within the fourm rules - others are in the following sets in my photostream:

How a Duck Lands Set 1
How a Duck Lands Set 2
How a Duck Lands Set 3

Thanks for looking!
Martin.

How a Duck Lands (2) - 01

How a Duck Lands (2) - 02

How a Duck Lands (2) - 03

Great aeronautical capture, clearly tells the story of a controlled crash landing. I suppose he plunged in without clearance from the tower.

Thanks Jerry. Yes that's exactly what it looks like. But there's usually lots of squawking going on when they come in, so I guess that must be his clearance

Those ducks may look like they are out of control but those last two in this set show how in control they really are. A perfect landing. Your photographs show that you are well in control of the camera too. Excellent set my friend, great work.

Jake.

Thanks Fred. Yes the duck from Set 2 was pretty skillful - almost looks like he's water skiing.

Thanks Jake - the guy from Set 2 was definitely more proficient . As you say it looks pretty out of control but I think they really know what they're doing. As for my camera work, it's the luck of the draw really (lots of hanging around waiting and hoping that your sequence is in focus). The camera does all of the hard work of course. Just upgraded to a D300 and am really enjoying it...

Fantastic capture! I go to the park all the time and shoot the ducks but I must say catching the landings is the hardest to do. Most of them land out of range or are facing the wrong direction. Great to have all the stars and planets line up for these shots. Fabulous focus and clarity. I will continue my quest to try and capture some of the same, I can only hope they come out half as good as yours have.

Thanks Michelle - you're making me blush . We're quite lucky in having a small duck pond in the village where I live, so there's often good opportunties if you're prepared to wait. But it's all pot luck really - they land so fast that all you can do is track them as best you can in the viewfinder and make best use of the continuous shooting features of your camera. Good luck!

Martin.
