Default Giving it a shot

I've been a member of this forum for months now but this is my first attempt in sharing pictures I took. For a newbie like me (just got my d60 late Dec 08), I'm not quite sure if you'll like my photos but I'm giving it a shot. Everybody here seems friendly anyway.

Took these pictures weeks ago when my family went to the beach for a vacation. Feel free to comment please. Thanks everyone!

Nice Kathy! I got my toes wet on the first and a smile for the second.. what are the kids doing, an "i'm not worthy" to the sunset? Very nice and I'm glad you joined in ..

Very nice shots Kathy. I really like how you've captured the texture of the sand in the first one and the colours in the second are gorgeous. The only small suggestion I'd make is to consider whether to make the figures in the second shot larger in the frame - you've captured them in silhouette perfectly. Have you thought about cropping it to make them larger?

Martin.

That actually was only an accident. I did not notice they were making that pose until I viewed the picture. Haha..

Thanks for the comment. Looking forward to post more..

Thanks much Martin for the suggestion, I'll try cropping the picture and see. I haven't thought about that since it came as a surprise to me that they were there.

Welcome to the community Kathy ( well as a contributing member )

I've also look at the waves at the beach and see images, I like your first photo.. it's clear and bright, shows good detail, the sun's reflection in the crest of the wave is something I'm always looking for .. well done !

I like the framing of the sunset and the beautiful transitions of color, the lines in the ocean from the waves adds a nice texture .. I think the kids in the lower right is a happy accident.. like something you notice if you look hard enough, then I notice some shapes in the water ... that's not a bad thing at all, it's kinda hard to distract from the strong pull of the sun setting.. the sillouettes add a little something, not a distraction for me.

Alot of us are newbies ( got DSLR in dec 08 also ), you'd be surprized how much you can learn by practicing what you see others do and comming up with some ideas to work on .. alot of us can;t wait to show our friends here what new creation we've come up with .. Your photos are in focus and of good quailty so I like em,,, can't wait to see your next post !

Vin
