Default My first attempts at Luna...Not as good as Vins

This was my first attempt at the moon. Not thrilled with them but this is as good as I can muster with only a 200mm lens. These are not near as good as Vins are tonight. I think next month I might look into a rental and see what I can come up with. I thought I would share a couple anyhow.

They are a alot better than my attempts I have had no luck at all with my shots of the moon, I always seem to get a reflection. These are great shots. Thanks for sharing.

They are pretty good , you could look at a tele converter , 2 x would help that 200 you have but I think yr shots are right up there , nice work .

Considering you were only using a camera lens (and not an actual telescope) these are pretty darn good shots. Believe it or not, the Moon can be a difficult target at times what with the changing phases. Most people here seem to go for the full Moon shots but with the right exposure on a thin crescent Moon you'll actually start to pick up what's called Earthshine. Basically, light reflected from the Earth will help to expose the dark portion of the Moon but then the part that is actually lit will be over exposed. Great job... keep it up and you'll get a picture you're proud of in no time.

Don't be so hard on yourself Michelle. You did a great job. Just read some of the other moonshot posts. The moon is a great subject to work with but it is also so hard to get right coz it is so bright getting all its light from the sun. Well done. You did great work.

Jake.

Thank you all very much for your kind words. You are always so nice. I am always and will always be my own worst critic. I can always see what I am after in my mind but as you all know all too well it does not always come out in the camera that way.
Thanks again for the encouragement and kindness. I will keep trying till I get the ONE!

I appreciate your determination and willingness to present your practice shots. That takes confidence to override the "worst critic". I feel certain that you, the intrepid photographer, will meet with the shot you seek. BTW These are pretty darned good!

oh yeah ! I disagree ! they are actually pretty good shots !
IMG_2405z

your moon's alot better then the above one .. that was my last attempt, takes a bit of practice and some figuring out.. plus I can go to 400m which helps alot, but exposure is the key.

I like when your hard on yourself, cause I'm like that too. And I really like that your share your progress, because now I am going to be looking for MS's moon #2 I think it takes a bit of courage to say " here's an attempt, it's not the best I can do, but keep an eye out, cause I'm gonna keep trying " and I KNOW you will show me the next ones and they will be better free attempts every month, weather permitting !!

Vin
