Default Everybody's gone surfing...surfing USA...

Hello....it's been awhile. I've missed you!

I'd like to share a few photos from my trip to San Diego where I spent last weekend on a working vacation. On Sunday, after three days of being at a conference, we headed over to the ocean. My husband, Mark, has been wanting to show me Dog Beach for quite sometime. This is a very popular spot in San Diego where dogs and their owners like to congregate. Give me a camera and a pending sunset and I'm a happy girl. Put a this man on any beach and the smile appears. Add a ball, a few dogs and an occasional child and Dog Beach becomes Dog Heaven.

[A few of you have inquired about my daughter and her family who live in Santa Barbara. Many of you know there is a horrific fire burning in their area. When I spoke to her last night, the winds had shifted in their direction and they were preparing to evacuate. As far as I know, they did not have to leave but they are prepared in case they have to. I will keep you posted. I'm finding it helpful just to carry on, hence these photos.]

Gorgeous! What a change from desert photos - there's nothing you can't photograph, Lindy! I was waiting to see what you'd have for us from your SD trip. Thanks for sharing.

Glad everything's okay with your daughter, too. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Lindy, we've missed you too. Glad you were able to get away to the beach and enjoy. As usual, your pictures are full of color and so well done. I really like the sunglasses on the rail.

Hi Lindy .. it's nice to see here again .. first off, let's hope the wind doesn't pick up in the direction of where they live ..
These images certainly has the west coast feel to them .. a la Beach Boys era .. I really like the empty Life Guard station with the sunglasses hanging on the railing .. just the right amount of light .. glad you managed to put in some fun time at the beach

Nicely done, Lindy. The color of the light in your sunglasses shot is perfect for a sunset. Was that shot creatively staged, or were those glasses cleverly spotted by the photographer?

My favorite is the one of the surfer. Beautiful, and I think that he's alone with his board enhances the point of the shot.

Glad you're back.

If everybody had an ocean, across the U.S.A.
Then everybody'd be surfin', like Californi-a
You'd seem 'em wearing their baggies huarachi sandals too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo
Surfin' U.S.A.

Welcome back Lindy, you've been missed, I missed you.
Great work as always, you temp us with sights and I'll hint at, the sounds of summer

Hi Lindy. I hope your daughter and her family come out of it all ok. Sorry to hear what happened.
Your opening photograph with the sunglasses is excellent as a starter for a great set of captures from the beach. They are all so good and remind us all of the summer to come. I hope that you managed to enjoy some of your trip and it is really great to have you back. You have been missed. Thanks for sharing your trip under what must be stressfull circustances.

Jake.

Update: Some of you know that my daughter and family live in Santa Barbara where many people have lost their homes to the wildfires that are raging across the city. Thursday evening, my daughter and her husband were preparing to evacuate (though NO official evacuation order had been issued) as the winds had reversed direction and the fire was heading towards their home. Thankfully, the fire did not reach their neighborhood. To be on the safe side, however, she and the children are staying with friends in Pasadena (1 hour, south) while Dominic remains in Santa Barbara. As of last night, the house is still standing. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes.

Hi Susan. Agreed. It was a nice break from the desert. A few more beach shots to follow and then FLOWERS! BTW. We have a lot of excess warmth in Tucson. Temps in the 100's. Would you like some?

Thanks, Mike. It's nice to be missed. The beach was wonderful and the sea breezes were very welcome. I was thinking of your pink trees while I was there. They have a red tree that could induce a conversation. I'll post a photo soon.

Yep. A Beach Boys moment. On Monday we went back to the beach and saw some guys and gals surfing in 6' waves. Good thing their music "has a good beat and you can dance to it" because I can't get it out of my mind. Here's another beach sound: a wooden roller coaster:

Roller Coaster, San Diego,

Thanks, Chip. Yea, the sunglasses was staged. It was one of those is-this-somethin'-or-nuthin'? moments. We arrived at least an hour before sunset and when I saw the surfers I just kept hoping to get that silhouette shot. I felt pretty lucky.

Beach, I have a new appreciation for all your ocean shots. I was trying to channel you, especially your camera settings and that "it" factor you possess in spades. AND...I had gulls and their cries...overhead, even. Furthermore...I've got a "bushy blond hairdo...thanks to...uh, nevermind...I don't think I should reveal my source.

Hi teedlepeep. It won't be long now until you will be enjoying summer, sun and sand. Wear sunscreen to reduce the screaming!

Thank you so much Jake. I'm darned happy to be back. As I told Susan, temps here are already in the 100's, so a breather in San Diego before the character building endurance test begins was great. And I know you like flowers. Buckle up. I went to the Flower Fields in Carlsbad. Oh, my goodness.

Hi Vin, First, thanks for your kind well wishes for the family. They are safe but the city is in misery. Secondly, I missed you, too. I wish I could send you some Tucson heat--we have plenty to spare. Here's a photo for your song. This is quintessential California beach culture:

Soooo California!
