Thumbs up 7 Year Old Photography

Here are a few photographs I wanted to share. My 7 year old daughter got her hands on my p&s and went nuts lol this is a few of the results of that fun.

She of course photographed her brother!
and herself with her brother;

and her brother once again with a finger (accidently) over the flash which she thought looked neat;

and one more, in this one note the "backdrop" (blanket on the middle cushion of the couch - the darker patch), she put that there as a "Nice background".. I'm so proud, she learned that from me LOL She may not have utilized it 'properly', but she's my smart lil photographer!

Thanks for looking.

Start them early! Show em what button to push and where to look and send them on there way! I liked the portrait of the two of them together and +1 for no "pink fuzzy pigs" (fingers in the way)

I gave my younger cousin one of my point and shoots to play with and its great to see what a curious kid can come back to you with.

My 8 yr old loves my point and shoot and does very well with it so we have had a couple of photo excursions to the park and the lake.....shoot alot and then look at them together and ask her if it is any good or not and why. We do the same with mine. Helping to think a bit more critically...Helps her to see me delete photos of my own that I do not deem worthy due to whatever faults. She is beginning to see compositionally....It is alot of fun to "talk it out" with the shooting. Now that she's shooting, take her out and tell her to think out loud what she's trying to do with the camera and ask her questions why and how? It will be a great communication exercise and interactive experience. I find that I grow alot too. Good luck!

I love the one of the two of them together - so cute! She even 'did his hair' for the session lol She was talking to him like an actual photographer, it was cute! lol

Before I went digital, my boys would shoot with my 35mm SLR. I'd set an exposure for them. Sometimes they'd grab the f-stop ring instead of the focus, but other than that, they could focus and shoot. Younger son took some of the coolest photos.

Then when I got a digital P&S, they'd come in the office, "Daddy, can I borrow the camera?" "Sure, here you go." They'd go off and take a hundred pictures, bring the camera back, we'd look at them, maybe print one or 2, and put the batteries in the charger. Cost: Nothing. They did have trouble getting used to the lens being on the side and sometimes put their hands over it.

They're 15 and 17 now.

Neat! Yeah, I think as Tanisha shows me she's less and less likely to break my camera I'll let her take it out (the P&S) more often (She has ADHD, so at times I worry - but it seems when she's focused she does well). I just love seeing what she comes up with. The pictures she'd take on her playskool P&S were sometimes quite humorous lol She'd set up her teddy bears in her bedroom in various poses with her clothing on them - it's a good thing she doesn't have an animal she can do that to.....
