I've been wanting to go and shoot inside this engineering firm for months now, so today I got up the nerve to go and ask. The exposure is really demanding. Get it right for the sparks and welder, and the arc blows right out. For this one I needed to blend a layer containing the work area just after the arc went off, just to get some detail there. Today was just step one on the learning path, next time I'll take some strobes and make a proper job of it.

Wow, Given the circumstances Elephunk I think that you did one hell of a job with this. I know how bright that arc actually is and that shot must have been so difficult. Great how you have captured the sparks coming off the torch. The colouring in the shot is good too. Not many would give or even think of giving this a try so well done. You did this shot a lot of justice Elephunk.

Well done. I captured some images of welding last week in my own workshop so I know how demanding it would have been to get a shot close to the torch in detail. Nice image and great colours.

I think you did well with the techniques that you used here! Great photograph. I love the hues.
