Default My first photos with off-camera lighting

I received my CTR-301P flash trigger set a couple days ago and finally got a chance to really test it out today. The weather can't make up it's mind so I just took a few snaps from around the yard. It was really overcast and looks like it's getting ready to rain again. The only flash I have at the moment is an OLD Vivitar SMS 30D but it puts out enough light for me.

Camera: 450D
Lens: kit 18-55mm
ISO: 100
F-stop: f/10
Shutter: 1/125 to 1/200
handheld
Vivitar flash off camera at full power

Gorgeous!

Were to handholding the flash or was it on a stand?

Of the first one it was on a little cheap-o mini tripod that came free with something else I bought. I can't remember what it was now. Maybe my cleaning kit? It's nowhere near strong enough to hold a dslr but it works great for a flash or my p&s. It's just like this one.

The socond one was just sitting on the ground. The third one was handheld. I held the camera steady and moved the flash around in a big circle until I found a spot I liked.

So really experimenting then! I had never even thought about using flash off camera to take macros of flowers for some reason.

By the way you have got me hooked with that Strobist site link you sent me, my list of 'wants' is about twice as long now .
