Default Makeshift Garage Studio, Beginner portrait - please give comments

I'm just a beginner at photography, I have a large garage, and set up a makeshift background with a black sheet and some lights. (from Menards)

Here are TWO photos that I took of my 9 yr. old in my garage.

I have a few shadows, which hopefully I can correct with the lights that I bought on ebay. They should be here this week sometime.

Let me know what you think.

Mabye it's me, but that link doesn't go to a bunch of shots taken in a makeshift garage studio

Just the two pictures of my 9 yr. old wearing green are in my garage, not the link. The link is my website.

I am sorry, I think I am missing something here. In your post you say you are "Just a beginner at photography" and you put up a link that you say is for other pictures taken with the set up used to take your two shots of a little girl in green, yet the link is actually to your web site where you have hundreds of pictures that are up for sale.

Default Makeshift Garage Studio Revealed

Yes, I am a beginner, yes I have hundreds of pics on a website, yes they are for sale.

I created the website one week ago. I have had my new camera for 3 months, which I have been trying to take some good pictures to sell, to make up for the website cost, which isn't much. Before I had this DSLR camera, the only digital camera i've owned is a kodak point and shoot DX7590.

Sorry............my first post must have been confusing. I don't have gymnastics meets, proms, and dance recitals in my garage.

I have edited my first post, hopefully it is now understandable.

Oh, and by the way, if you doubt these were taken in my garage, see the attached pics.

I am not trying to be a smart_*_(whatever), I'm just trying to learn about photography.

I have a very similar setup in one of my bedrooms which i now totally use for photography. I set up my computer in there also and some umbrella lights and background stand. Nothing too elaborate but something to start with. I think you have done fine with the photos taken in your garage and you can only improve each time you set up for a shoot.. You have a very pretty subject to start with.

Thank you!

I just bought a set of Britek lights on ebay, which i'm not sure about yet, they haven't arrived, I've heard good and bad about them. For me I think they will be fine, (they have to be better than my Menards lights and a camera flash).

Also I am excited about the new lens that I ordered, and will be here Tuesday, (Canon - 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Zoom Lens).

It will work alot better than my Canon - EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens, I have to stand clear on the other side of the garage with it.

You are on your way....only suggestion is to soften the light, send it through a sheet, wax paper or something. Great little model!
