Default Spring Ducklings

I was out by my local duck pond last weekend trying to get some shots of ducks landing on the water and also in-flight (my latest self-imposed challenge - not as easy as it seems!). Anyway, the sun had nearly gone down and I was just about to give up for the day when a female Mallard Duck emerged from the other side of the pond with about 14 ducklings in tow.

To my delight, she brought them right across the pond in front of where I was sitting on a bench. Earlier in the day people had been feeding the ducks with bread, and there were still some scraps left over which the ducklings were all too happy to find.

Best of the crop below - I hope you like them. The sun was almost down so the lighting wasn't great, but the subject matter more than made up for it I think. All shot in Program mode due to the changing light and limited time I had available to get my shots in...full details on the Flickr pages.

Thanks Fred! Yes I kind of like the first one the best as well, with the mother keeping an eye on the proceedings. But with 14 of them in tow I just don't know how she keeps track of them all...

sooo cute Ducklings are everywhere at the moment. Drove past a family of Candian geese yesterday, Mom had them resting IN the road. Fortunately it was a very quiet road and people were gracious enough to give them a wide birth.
