Default I simply adore hummers.....

no words, just photographs. While feeders are great, watching them amongst the flowers is fascinating....

Thanks peeper, they are really fun to photograph just takes a lot of patience because they move so fast.

thank you jack. Firstly these were taken in a friends garden. The humming birds love her 'bee balm' and feed from it voraciously. I stood patiently and watched them for a while before attempting to take any photographs. My settings were as follows:

F-stop f/5.6
exposure: 1/1250
focal length: 300mm

even though it was a bright sunshiny day I bumped my ISO up to 800 because these little critters can sure move fast!

Thank you Alf. They are just a lot of fun to photograph. Hard to get good focus though as they flit from flower to flower rather fast and unlike a feeder, you have no idea which flower they will go to next. I have some of them sitting in a nearby tree as well, quite unusual as normally you only see them in flight or feeding. Limit to post was 4 though.

Hey Peeper .. my comment only comes as I love the relaxed atmosphere of this forum .. it's a post and toast place .. everyone is so courteous and supportive.. I didn't want to mess with that asking for too much detail.. i jumped in the deep end with you guys, and I feel like I have a gazzilion - each and every one of you - ready to help me to the ladder every time .. thx for that .. Ian
