Default First moon shot

I took this tonight when I saw the moon while letting the dog out. Went back inside and grabbed the camera and threw the "new" Sigma 70-300mm on it then slapped the whole thing onto my very inadequate little tripod. I had a lot of trouble focusing at 300mm so I used Live View and magnified the image on the LCD display to make things a little easier. I also turned on mirror lock-up and used the 2 second timer function to help eliminate camera shake. Even with spot metering I couldn't get a well exposed shot at ISO 100 shooting at 1/100th of a second and f/11 so I ended up bumping ISO up to 200. I'll try ISO at 100 again once the moon is full.

Beautiful job! The crescent phases are my favorite times, the way the light gives the craters more of a 3D effect. You captured that perfectly.

I am always so envious of good moon shots. Which that is I have never been able to capture one that was worth a darn.

The lens you used really worked well. Nice shot. Thanks for explaining how you took it. I learn so much from here.

Thanks for the comments. I am quite proud of this one, especially since it was taken with a $100 lens. It turned out much better than I was hoping for.
