Default From the weekend

We went to South Fork CO this weekend with the ATV. It was cloudy and threatened to rain all weekend but we managed to have a great time.

I learned two important things this weekend.
1.Make sure you have a chip in the camera before taking about 20 shots of elk.
2.Your camera bag gets filthy when you are riding on the back of an ATV

We did see more elk later on so I still got a few shots but no where near as good as the first ones would have been. And the dust didn't seem to get to my camera but I will probably always put the camera bag inside another bag when I take it on the ATV.

This is Treasure Falls. It is on the south side of Wolf Creek Pass. It is 105ft long. Its name comes from accounts suggesting that a chest full of gold was buried in the area after a group of Frenchmen was captured by either Spaniards or Indians. The treasure has never been reported to have been found.

This is at a trailhead just outside of South Fork.
It is at an old Ranger station that the National Forest is thinking about opening up for people to rent.
It has a great corral and pasture for horses.

Oh boy can I identify with forgetting to put the card in the camera. I have done that at least 2ce now and missed the most amazing shots

That frustration for you aside, these are great shots !! I love the 3rd and 4th ones. We have been talking about going to CO for vacation this summer. Seeing these makes me wanna push a bit more for it

Is this a great idea, life lessons from ftboah
The first idea is right up there with don't lock your car keys in your car when photographing deer, lets see who admits to that one.

Your pictures here are stunning, I love Treasure Falls, worth a bit of dust from the ATV rear seat, and I think the National forest should open all its lands to the public. I love the San Juan's, is that snow, and Wolf Creek Pass is awesome, this is my favourite from a great series of pictures.

Teedle, go check my flickr if you need something more to push with. If you come to this part of Colorado, let me know and I can either take you or direct you to some wonderful scenery.

Beach, Treasure Falls is right off of Wolf Creek Pass and on the paved road. They have a trail that you can take to the mid-section of the falls which is awesome.

Terry, Everywhere I turn there is gorgeous countryside in this state. Even though I have lived here since 1980, it still takes my breath away.

I knew you were going ATVing over the weekend, and I was wondering why I hadn't seen anything from you yet! These were worth the wait. My eyes never tire of anything Colorado. I had one of those I know better moments this weekend myself. I had taken pictures of some products at work on Friday and had my white balance set on tungsten. Sunday, I had taken 80 pictures in the early morning sunlight, before I realized it was still set on tungsten...Doh!!!
