Default Sadness

I always have mixed feeling when we go to the zoo. I love seeing the animals and the photographer in me is in picture heaven but then my heart really goes out to these caged animals that deserve so much better. Anyway, we went to the zoo today and the Chimpanzee broke my heart. He/she looked so sad and bored. These are not as good as they could be considering they were taken through some dirty scratched up glass.

More alike then we know, I thought their hands were just amazing,

Some really cool feet also:

Hi Michelle. Sad as it is, Zoo's are part of our lives and are children learn a lot from Zoo's and this is evident by the amount of visitors they recieve and I think we all have mixed feelings, I am in the same mind as you. That said, your photographs are excellent and show us how alike we are. You show great detail in the hands and feet and the last two. Awwwww couldn't you just give him a great big hug...Very nice work Michelle.

Makes me feel so bad for this guy! Your pics are great. Maybe you should send them to the zoo to show them what people are noticing.

Wonderful Captures! Yes he looks so sad. As much as I enjoy the zoo sometimes the looks in their eyes makes me feel bad for enjoying the ability to watch them as they are caged. You certainly showed his greatness and sadness. Wonderful Captures!

A good series of pictures and you're right about zoos Michelle, but without them, some animals wouldn't be here today, and many people would never see an exotic creature.
Zoos are necessary, although you'd wonder when you see beautiful animals like our friend here looking so sad.
On the other hand, havn't you ever had one of those days when you couldn't be bothered, perhaps its just one of those days.

cheers beach

Loved the details in the hands and feet shots, they are just incredible.
Great series of photos. Looks like the poor fella needs a good hug .
I guess there is the good and the bad about zoos.

These are wonderful shots,Michelle. Yes, I too hate to see any animal caged up. Do you have any breeding locations? These tend to be very much geared to the animals' well being more than for the general public. In fact many are private and not open to the general public. The thought is that if the animals are not happy then they certainly will not breed!! Often the animals are in very large enclosures and made to feel as much at home as is possible. But even then we are not talking large forests or the Masai Mara.
