Default more flowers then you will ever see in your life...

I went with my g/f and her Father to check out the famous flower fields of Carlsbad CA. There were so many flowers that I couldn't really find a whole lot to contrast them. They grow flower bulbs here, and then charge people to come view them. I found the business model pretty amazing.

I would have killed for a 65mm macro and a decent macro flash kit though haha...

Here are a few of my favorite:

I'm going to be in San Diego next week and seeing your wonderful photos makes think I have flowers in my future. Thank you so much! I just found their website, BTW.

Glad to help It costs $10 to get in. They also has awesome strawberries in season right now and are serving strawberry shortcake. I am not sure the wagon ride is worth the money or time though...

For anybody interested: website for the Flower Fields. They always run a photo competition, btw.

Zomie, great job! For me, the fields are a tough subject--they're so damn big, and the slope of the hill doesn't make it easy to capture a sense of the scope of just how many ranunculus there are in the fields. You really just want a helicopter or balloon so you can get up above the scene...

Last year, some local photo store brought demo copies of all the Canon macro lenses (inlcuding the MP-E 65mm) with bodies and tripods and they let you (supervised) use your own card to try out the hardware. Don't think they're doing that this year, though, but the website's good for finding information about days like that.

Damn, I really could have used a macro lens too. I am kind of disappointed I missed the Canon Macro class. It was kind of an impromptu trip so I was kind of stuck with my standard kit.

If I had known there was a photo contest going on I would have tried a bit harder, and borrowed a 100mm macro from a friend.
