Default Reflected Intrigue

Reflected Intrigue

I was taking some shots of my wife's friend and her daughter at the park. This little girl was there with her mother. I saw them going down the slide together and asked if I could take some shots. Mom said sure. I then asked mom to have the little girl stand next to this wide angle mirror and snapped a few.

I liked the shot but it was overexposed, especially the sky in the reflection and parts of her jacket. So I converted it to BW, restored her skin and jeans and the wood in the background (her jacket was originally pink), bumped up the contrast and ended up with this.

I'm impatiently waiting on my new 10-22 to arrive so I can do some wide-angle shooting. This gave me my wide angle fix for now. :-)

Cute idea. Did you give a copy to the mom?

Yes, I gave her my card at the park and told her to email me and she did. I sent her 8 of the better shots. She loved them, especially this one, but I wasn't too thrilled since I saw the technical flaws with the lighting/shadows, etc in all of them. To me they weren't up to professional standards but she liked them. She said she mailed them to family in India and they were a hit. I have a feeling that any pics of that cute girl sent to India would be a hit though. :-)

Thanks.

It's good to be critical about your own work. But you should also be able to appreciate a good shot, even if you took it yourself
