Default First Studio Portraits

I set up my make-shift studio in the garage again this weekend. I have a band that performs in the SF Bay area. I asked one of the singers to sit for me. This is my first attempt at studio portraits. I use reflective umbrella for fill, shoot through umbrella for backlight/highlight, and I made the DIY beauty dish from Strobist as main. Shot with Canon 40D, changing from 50mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2.8 macro, and 200mm f/2.8L. Flashes used, Canon 430EX II (beauty dish), Vivitar DF383 (fill), and Vivitar 285HV (back). On the very last photo, one of my flashes misfired. But I'm very happy with the outcome. It has a very sultry feel. Forgot to mention that I used my Cactus V4s for the shoot.

Hello Rusty, thats a great series with your lovely singer/ model. I wish I had more room to try and set up a mini studio, but until then, I'll have to admire others' portraiture, especially the sultry ones . I'd be leaving that bulb off all the time, well done

She a big gal but very photogenic. I can't believe that I took about 800 shots. I just kept clicking away. She did some outfit changes which gave us a break from time to time. But the whole session last about 4 hours.

Looks like you had a lot of fun with this. I love shot #2. She looks so relaxes and if she is having a ball
