That's a great conversion. I use GIMP on XP but I'd seen the comments about problems with GEGL and Windows so I haven't tried it. I'll have to give it a go and see what happens.

However even without GEGL GIMP is awesome. And certainly for the 4 years I have been using it it has been a general purpose graphic manipulation tool rather than a specific photo manipulation tool. Nowt wrong with that as far as I'm concerned.

I am still stuck on Photo Shop 7 and would love to try Gimp as some of the photos I have seen edited with Gimp are stunning. My problem is no-matter if I download the English version it always ends up in German, and my German is very limited.

Thanks for the link, but I still have the same problem. Maybe it is because I am in Germany with a German version of XP. Even if I select English as the install language all the menus are in German.

Create an environment variable called LANG and set it to "en". Hopefully that will fix it.

right-click on My Computer -> properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variable

The google-fu. It is mine.

The Gimp is awesome. If you're on Ubuntu. I had a helluva time getting the latest Mathmap Gimp plugin to work on OSX, and I finally just gave in, and installed Ubuntu (Intrepid Ibex) under Parallels. The Gimp works a lot better under its native OS. And now I can get my Droste on any time I want.

I may be stupid but I was certain I answered this problem and yet I have seen 2 more posts in this same thread about the Gimp crashing.

Soemtimes it pays to read threads, it can be an education.

Oh sod off. Go spread FUD somewhere else. I'm an Open Source developer, and I make sure my documentation is up to par like many other OS projects. Don't believe me? Check out http://stuvel.eu/projects/flickrapi, or check YouTube for video tutorials on Blender. There are plenty of Open Source project with excellent documentation.

And to show how arrogant Gimp developers can be, and also one of the drawbacks of using this software read the first comment on this link

http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/gimp-2...--p277965.html
So... people have created The Gimp in there spare time, and ask nothing in return. They simply give an excellent program to the world freely, no strings attached. And now they are the arrogant ones?

It's a fact of life that programmers generally don't like writing/updating documentation. They are working completely for free and simply do what they like to do, indeed the documentation could be lacking in some areas. Are people arrogant simply because they do what they want to do in their own private spare time?

To demand that this documentation is written by someone is the same as to demand that those people start doing something in their own private spare time against their will. To demand that without any form of compensation for their effort, now that is arrogant.
