Default Where there's smoke...

Well, ok, there isn't fire really.

But I finally got around to trying some smoke shots using my SB-600 off camera. I'd previously used 2 halogen work lights, which worked to a certain extent (the light was always a bit finicky), but I'm amazed at how much easier it was using just the flash with a DIY snoot for lighting. I still had a bit of trouble focusing. I wound up doing manual focus in the end and hoping to get them in focus, but with the flash I was able to go to f/11-13. When using the lights I was using much larger apertures, so the margin of error was much higher. So here are a few of my favs.

Thanks JG When I got them off the camera I was so excited to be able to post them since I was so happy with them!

Thanks Eloren I like that last one too. It reminds me of the hilt of a sword the way it wraps back around itself.

lol yeah, and it was even better cause I've been in a total photo slump since right before Christmas! I was starting to think I'd forgotten how to use the camera
