BabetteKD,

However your mom got f/5.3 on her Nikon, that worked for her! She may be the true hobbyist, whatever she gets, is good enough for her? Maybe when she sees your improvement, she'll begin asking for advice!

Mom presses buttons trying to get the photo to appear on the view screen so she doesn't have to look in the viewfinder, and doesn't know how to fix what she's done. She was given the D40 as a gift because her old film Nikon fell one too many times and finally broke (poor thing lasted years).

Also, she doesn't look at my photography. She can't spell flickr and doesn't know how to use e-mail (technophobe). I get her pictures by stealing her memory card for the day to put everything on a CD for her to print at Wal-Mart after editing them. To be fair, the pictures that come out, come out really well (as pictured). This summer when I'm home I'll try to at least teacher her some basics, but she likes to point and shoot with her camera. Oh well.

Default wow

Not having a camera in 2008, all of you can only make me hope that I aspire to such greatness.

Just wonderful!

DPS has definitely inspired me and whilst still very much at the lower end of the ladder in this esteemed group, I am proud of these shots from last year.

JackieJet, Welcome

We're open round-the-clock, at least 364 days a year, so whenever you're ready, we're here! Easy to see why these are favorites - they're some of the best in this thread. Love the rosebud.

cheguthamrin,

Top four fav's, and happiest moments with a D40 - man, it doesn't get better than that! Thanks for inspiration and a glimpse of a beautiful land.

barge, Welcome

We're about to start a "Best of 2009 . . . so far" thread. You can still show us your best work, as it happens!

Mourner, Welcome

Your shots make Spring almost seem possible again. Very nice, warm, and hopeful.

MattG, Welcome

Think "road" instead of "ladder" and then you'll see you're at a point on that road determined by your starting time, and how fast you choose to travel. Looking at it that way, you're exactly where you need to be to learn and improve. You'll find many fellow travellers here willing to pause and help. Your photos say you'll be able to help others who may be far behind you!

Primetime,

Since we expanded to the 800 pixel limit, shots like your butterfly are so much more impressive. Beautiful. Can we help with getting the first shot to show?
