Yes, it definitely makes a difference in the amount of comments and faves you receive, particularly in the first 24 hours after you post your shot. That's why you see people that can do automated comments and have thousands of contacts. As for them being great art, some are, but a great many are not. After all, it's decided by a computer, not people! Best not to put to much credence in the choices!

They call it 'interestingness' but don't really define it, definitely a computer algorith of some sort but it's a big secret!. Just a bit of fun.

Aaarrrhhh.

Flickr Explore is so frustrating. If only I didn't care so much (or cared enough to jump through hoops).

This is my "most interesting" shot in my photostream according to Flickr but has never been in Explore (none of my shots ever have). However it has more views, faves and comments than a number of photos that have made it in that have been uploaded by others.

Hong Kong Peak

I don't know why it bothers me becuse I know it's not all about the photo but more about how you market the shot, networks of friends etc which I don't bother with. I suppose it would just be nice to get in once despite all of this!!!

I know what you mean! This shot has been my "most interesting" for quite some time but it never broke into Explorer, whereas the one shot that did make it (and has since been dropped) is way down at #25 or something. Aghh

It makes no sense at all. This shot is listed as #15 on my most popular despite only having 15 views and nothing else.

Times Square

This one has 67 views (and climbing despite me never having posted it anywhere, strange) and is langishing down at #29. Weird.

Manhattan Skyline

ratings etc on flickr may seem weird but remember what things affect the algorithm. Views are just one aspect but it also looks at tags, captions, how many sets you have, how many pictures in each set etc. If you never use tags, never insert a caption, have few images in a set and keep your images marked 'private' for friends and family only, you will never be 'explored' or make it on to the ranking in any form. It is like SEO
