I'm one of a few photographers for the local University sports teams. We don't have any photographer holes in the glass so we either shoot through the glass (dirty, gross glass) or we shoot from a bit above the glass in the stands. Here is a selection of shots I did from around the arena...comments??

You've captured a nice variety of shots. Like mikoyan mentioned, get closer, and at arena level. Also crop tighter!

I am actually at ice level for some of the shots, however the glass being as dirty as it is, it's hard to shoot through it and end up with a nice clean image. Yes it throws the dirt out of focus, but there could be that bit of a blur and I personally hate that.
When I mentioned I was in the stands, I meant right at the glass level but just above it. I have full access to anywhere I need for these shoots (the university). I'm going to shoot an OHL game soon (they are a junior league...feeders for the NHL). They have the photographer holes in the glass so hopefully I can snag some nice shots that way.... Thanks for the comments though! |

Also get up to where you can shoot straight down on the goal area too!

I had hoped for some ends at this arena but unfortunately there are spots only on one side of the arena (as far as seating goes). The other side is a brick wall, one end is the zamboni end and the other is a brick wall...I'd love to get up above for some direct shots at the goalie...perhaps at my next shoot of a pro game...
