I have the 70-200 2.8, and bought the 2x converter just to get some extra length. Varying opinion out there about it, but I have been very satisfied with the crispness and general feel of the shot. The big negative of course is that 2.8 goes to 5.6 with converter. I don't know what that means for a 4.0 lens like yours?

OK, here's a tighter crop. Really losing some detail here, though it's not too bad at 800wide I guess.
40D , 70-200 f/4.0
1/200 , f4.0 , ISO 100 , 189mm(sometimes Lightroom says it's not at 200 even though I know I have the zoom maxed out.)
No, I am a saffer.

That is a really top shot, you should have sold it to a paper

Not yet, Though we are limited to 200mm. They do that so we can't muscle in on the pro's.

If your 2.8 ends up at 5.6 then I'd hate to think where 4.0 would end up, maybe f/8 or f/9. Not much dof out at 100 meters with that. Not to mention iso on my 40D starts looking crap at 400 when its starts getting dark.

Saffar….Just as bad
Rules of the ground out here, any pictures taken remain the property of , hmm now I can't recall. Either Aust. Cricket, or the ground.

Thanks for the comment though. Much appreciated.

The autofocus will not work with the x2 converter on the F4 lens except on the 1D body.

try the x1.4

Okay, so you're saying that the entire team gets to try and hit before the other team gets to try? And if they miss and let the thingys get knocked over they're out? I don't know if I have any more of an understanding of cricket now or not, but I do know that I like your pics. Great uniform color on top of the green grass & I love the crop. Very nice. =) Now I'm off to see if I got my ins from outs - or is it outs from ins? ???

I'm yet to get an extension tube. But I'll bear that in mind. Cheers for the tip.

All that ins and outs I thought I was reading a transcript from an old Abbott and Costello bit.
