Default Diver Down

I have been hired to photograph a friend's son during his diving match. The shoot is out of town, so I went to the local H.S. to practice. I would welcome any comments or tips about this photo as I really want to make a good impression. This could lead to more shoots.
First, I did very little PP. I just got PS for christmas and haven't mastered it yet. So these photos have Auto Contrast and Auto Color. That's all.
I'm concerned about the sharpness of the diver. How do I freeze the action more? I know the background is distracting. The coach was kind enough to let me poolside. I'm thinking I would like to try from the end of the board if I allowed (if only during practice) on the actual shoot.

To freeze the diver nice and sharp you will need a higher shutterspeed, which is a problem indoors because that reduces the amount of light the lens takes in, so you will need to adjust aperture or ISO or use a flash (if allowed) to compensate.
I would recommend a very open aperture (low f number) to let in plenty of light and blur the background, coupled with a high shutterspeed to 'freeze' the diver.
It would be good to see your results here when you've done them

Thanks Joe. I'll try to up the ISO to 6400 and maybe shutter speed to 1/500 or so. f2.8 is all I'm gonna get out that particular lens. I may try using my 85mm @ f1.8. I'm going to try and position myself to get better lighting on the face, if possible.
