Hovercraft UK-1

I would like the Hovercraft to be showing a little more movement than I feel it is... Any tips this is my first effort at any kind of motorsport.

Camera Canon 30D 70-200 f2.8L is
Image exif f3.5 1/800 iso 100. 177mm

Perhaps I should slow the shutter down a bit? or change my position to change the background?

First off let me say that I am envious of your 2.8 lens. I want that lens so bad.... anyways...

Yea, I'd just say it simply has to be your shutter speed. 1/800 would freeze a hovercraft easily.
You might try something around 1/200 and move back from there.
If the hovercraft were moving fast enough I think I pan shot would be quite unique and that would convey motion without blurring the craft.

By the way, I love that 70-200 lens. I want one. Did I mention that?

nothing really to add, just to say, that would be well cool racing around in one of those.

As said, slow your shutter speed down until you get the amount of blur you want. Pan witht he boat to throw the background into a blur while keeping the boat sharp for even more motion effect.

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

I bought the 70-200 from one-stop digital only just prior to this event so am still getting used to it's features. I have read about the 2nd setting on the image stabilisation, but had not used it on the day.

Will try on next shoot. Especially the panning on cyclist in a triathlon.
