I shot a boxing event for the first time. Overall, I wasn't too happy with my performance shooting it, although I did get a few reasonable shots. I know my camera is about the worst choice for shooting something like this, but at the moment, That's what I have. I started the evening with my 28-105 f/4 IS, thinking the IS would help me, but no...I ended up trashing all the shots using it - the noise was so bad the pics were awful. I tried lowering the ISO, but it was too dark to get any reasonably fast shutter speed. I switched to my 50 f/1.8 and had much better results, but still not great. Any advice on improving, including equipment?

A 7d and a 50mm 1.4.

Don't give me that look, you asked

As far as your EXIF goes it looks like you did just about as much as you could given the equipment you're using. Gyms are hard as far as light goes unfortunately. If flash is allowed that would be a cheaper alternative to upgrading your camera body/lenses.
