Default too bright on the bottom

Is this reflection coming off my lens hood ? I was shooting into the sun. Or something else ?

I wouldn't think you'd get any reflection from your lens hood. It does seem that there was something silver reflecting. Did you have anything around your neck or hanging off your shoulder?

I don't think the lens would do that either.

I see you are shooting with a 7D now, how do you like it?

I don't see the problem you're talking about. There's a white banner in the background running across the bottom of the image, but other than that, I don't see anything that looks white across the bottom of your image.

I'm not clear on the brightness you are referring to either. Do you mean the brightness of the uniform or the light colored sign in the background? Using a 300mm lens, I highly doubt that either could be lit by a reflection from a lens or lens hood at that distance other than maybe causing a small bright spot.

It just seems to me the pants of his uniform is brighter and more detail is lost than in his shirt. Maybe just my imagination.

Yes.......you need to work in curves and bring the whites and middle tones down a bit.

I downloaded your original image off of Flickr and the pants don't read any brighter than the shirt, in fact, the tops of the shoulders are slightly blown out whereas the pants are not.

I also noticed in the original image that the focus is really soft on this image. They eyes aren't anywhere near sharp, though they look good in the size you posted here.

yes, I agree the focus is soft. I am fairly sure its not motion blur, and i have not customized the focus micro adjustments on this lens. I should probably do that, its easy to have a slightly OOF image when your shooting 2.8 on a moving target
