A polarizing filter may help. Also, shoot raw and you can recover some of the detail in post. This image, and I assume the others, could be tweaked pretty easy with levels in lightroom or photoshop, and you could sync the settings to all of the photos in the set easily.
By the way, it's really not a bad shot at all. Last edited by BK553; 10-10-2009 at 04:00 PM. |

The sunny16 might be of help in these conditions...

Yes, I am aware of Sunny 16, but to achieve 1/400 that would have meant f/16 at ISO 400... correct? I need a fast shutter speed for the action, but I would have to push up ISO and lose grain. Am I right about that? Or do you think that would have enhanced the overall exposure?

You should be able to stop action with a minimum ss of 200. You might gain some noise at a higher ISO but 400 should not introduce any significant amount.

I would just set the lens to f/5.6, that way it isn't changing aperture on you. ISO200 isn't going to be noisy, and it'll give you 1/1000+. The image looks a little over, so you could probably get 1250 or even 1600 out of it.
