Change the vantage point if possible. I run into this dilemma when shooting my son's football game when the sun is just going down but the 'home' side is facing west so the sun is right in my lens, I go to the other side and shoot. Also I run into this with the peewee football that I shoot and just go to the other side.

yep it seems to be the angle which you are to the sun - strong light, so the colors get a bit 'washed out'
Try shooting with your back to the sun if possible. Not too sure this will cure it though, so might want to try underexposing a bit? Tricky light though . . . that aside, nice photo . . . the red shirt player is in a unique position haha |

Hey, I had the same dilemma last weekend myself. But my view of it is, if the players are the real focal point, then as long as their color is balanced and pleasing, you should try to forgive what happens around them. If you look with your naked eye, you'll probably see that even your eye is not seeing those rich greens you crave. So the camera can only do so much. All that being said, yes, repositioning is the best option, but if your subjects look good, I'd forgive the surroundings if push comes to shove.
Also, great catch on this shot! |

Position yourself down by the goal area, so you get the players coming right at ya, instead of capturing the back of em.
