Default Running for Daylight

I don't really have the glass for serious sports photography, but I thought I'd break out my 75-300mm 4.0 (non-IS) the other day at a middle school football game. This is one of the shots that came of it. I just wanted your general thoughts about color, composition, etc... Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

EXIF:
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture: f/5.0
Focal Length: 140 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

since noone has been kind enough to comment . . .

id say it could be sharper - since you have 1/1000 shutter, this is focussing problem, not handshake.

Its a nice photo, nothing wrong with it composition-wise. Although judging from shadows, there was another player quite close, so might have been good to compose with 2nd player on the side - more contect - almost like a challenge for the ball - which is what american football (im a brit, so this is not football to me :P) is all about.

Also maybe shooting a bit later - when the guy has his left foot (our right) in front, striding forwards - would be more dynamic in my opinion.

Hope that helps
Nathan

oops posted same thing twice, but while im here - also could have stoped down to f4 - would get more light, so can maybe use a a lower iso (less grain), would also give a shallower DoF
