Default Trying to Catch Action but Missed

I am fairly certain the answer to my question will be "Use a faster shutter speed" but want to ask anyway. Here is a pic I took yesterday of my husband while we were making bubbles for our son. I was trying to catch the action as my husband spun his arm/hand to get the bubble (am I making any sense??) but its mostly all blur. I had the flash on, it fired, but am guessing the shutter speed was too slow? Thanks in advance...

Thanks Tom. Don't know why I had it set at 1/40 or why I didn't think about that until I was uploading the picture...definitely makes me feel like your user name

Instead of using a higher shutter speed, you could also try panning while taking the shot. Moving your camera along with the action, makes your subject (you husband and the bubble) much clearer, though your background still be blur. Who knows, you might like the effect more.

That's what I was thinking.
