Water Fountain

Hi, Rookie photographer here. I took some photos of family at the Gateway Water Fountain in SLC. Would like to read some critiques. How to improve this shot? How is the color? Some things I might consider before shooting a shot like this next time? Thanks.

Hi and welcome.

My 2 cents: (1) I'd crop out that storefront window. It doesn't add much, and takes away from the boys and the fountain. (2) I like the idea of the light hanging off the wall, but not partially cropped the way it is. If you have the whole thing in your original photo, then maybe keep it all in, for balance? If not, maybe crop it out entirely? (3) the partial person at the right edge of the frame is a bit of a distraction. If you could clone her out, that should help.

I think the color is fine.

Composing impromptu shots like this isn't easy, but it does get a bit easier with practice.

And if you could post a medium size version of the photo in your initial post, it would make critiquing easier.

It's a nice photo of what seemed to be fun time.
