For me I think that cropping for effect is my weak point. Looking for suggestions on crop to make this a more dynamic image. EXIF data:
Nikon D90 Sigma 12-24mm 4.5-5.6 ISO 200 Focal Length 21mm Shutter Speed: 1/2000 Aperture: f5.6 ![]() more of the skateboarding shoots can be seen here

I think the subject would look better with more sky and/or trees behind him and not the concrete. Get lower to the ground if possible and shoot up. That will put more "air" under him.
From this angle, it's hard to see how high he is. I would also crop in from the right giving him room to "fall into" the left side of the frame. |

I agree with claytegaue. Get low to the ground, zoom all the way out, so you don't HAVE to look through the viewfinder, and then remember to get the top of the ramp he is jumping in the frame. That way, the viewer can se how high he is jumping, and where he is going, and therefore feel som more movement.
Another good technique i use, shooting skaters, are rather slow shutterspeeds (like 1/20-100), and then a second curtain flash (ideally on a cord, but those are expensive). The you freeze the subject, whereas the background is a bit faded. (this is what i mean: Flickr Photo Download: Ølsted 3 )
