Default Panning

ok this is one of my first attempts at panning, It was really bright and sunny, the sun was at my back but the photo seems to of come out dark and the focus is not quite right still got to get that down. How can I improve this to take better photos?

Panning works best when you have alot of different things in the background. The green grass with the white barracade does not give you the sense of motion you should get with panning. If they had been passing the grand stand would have been much better.

The front of the car is a bit out of focus. I just recently tried this myself. Not as easy as it looks. Yours came out better than mine.

nice shot...

I actually like the panning effect, while there isn't a ton in the background to give it more streaks, it's a cleaner faster look for me.

the car is "in focus; the number on the door is in very sharp focus for this style of shot, so we know focus was spot on. At f32 at that distance, if the door is in focus, the whole car and track are in focus.

the blur isn't soft focus, it's motion blur. panning works best when the object is at a (relatively) constant distance. not only is the car coming toward you (by angle of track) but it looks like it was starting a turn (or generally moving laterally on the track) at the time of your shot, which could be why the front of the car is more blurred.

I'd suggest playing with levels a bit to get the exposure up to where it should be. then maybe a touch of contrast and sharpening.

but, for panning, that's a really nice shot.
