Default BMX Portrait

I shoot a lot of BMX since I spend many of my weekend at tracks with my family. I am thinking about minimizing my own racing to spend more time behind the lens, upgrade my gear and maybe sell a few pics (not to mention I have had 3 painful crashes in the last 4 months). Not looking to make a profit from it, just feed my new habit!.

I post my pics to a local BMX site and get good feedback...but this is coming from people who may not know any better when it comes to photography. So here is probably the best of my best so far...any thoughts and feedback is welcome??

Camera: Canon 450D
Lens: EF-S 55-250mm IS
Shutter Speed: 1/640
Aperture: F/5
Sensitivity: ISO400
Focal Length: 70mm
Flash: Yes

Click here for the rest of this set...I'd love feedback on how I am going overall.

There's no frame of reference (jump/ramp/track) for this one - which I (and many other people) find essential for these types of shots. It's just a guy framed against the sky. Framing against the sky is a good thing but we need more storytelling elements. He could be two inches off the ground in this picture or 10 ft. Show the takeoff/landing and we'll know more about what's going on. This is a problem for many (but not all of your pictures). Here's one where you showed some (but not enough in my opinion) of the landing - clicky - I find it much better than the one you posted, see if you agree.

Yes, I see your point. It could be a posed shot in a Toys'R'Us catalogue for all the observer knows! Thanks.
