This is my first post got my camera about a month ago and I love it!
Just would like to know what you guys think about the lighting of this pic..I know its a lil on the dark side, but i seem to like darker pics and it was early evening dusk time and overcast so I had to crank the ISO up. I cropped and raised the exposure a tad in light room but everything else was done in camera. Is there anyway I can take sharper images under these lighting conditions? OR is my only option flash? ![]() Nikon D90 18-55mm kit ISO 2500 24mm f 4.5 1/320 Last edited by Flysaiah; 06-24-2009 at 07:48 PM. Reason: Add a question |

I dont understand why people ask for lighting critique when they didn't use any lighting in their pictures. It's way too dark. And yes, flash is your only option. Without flash you need shutter speeds of at 1/1000 and above for action like this. Lighting with a good flash your flash duration is short enough that you effectively get this shutter speed = sharp picture.
EDIT: Also, unless you're trying to get into a nudey mag or something I wouldn't reccommend taking pictures of peoples butts. And it desperately needs straightened as everything is badly tilted to the right.

thanks for the response..even though you were a jerk about it...Your post would have been plenty helpful without your I dont know why people blah blah...most of the time people ask questions because they dont know and they want information. Im very new to this so i guess lighting was the wrong thing to say. thanks anyway.

I'm with you on that one Flysaiah,. there seems to be alot of that on this site recently, common decency and manners have gone out the window with some users.
Now back to your shot, looking at your data and you equipment, the only option you have to get a sharper pic is to use flash to freeze that action under those dim lighting conditions. |

you can use flash without loosing the overall tone and feel of your picture. Just experiment and read yuo will find your own balance point. And yes a skew horison can be problamatic but in skate boerd pics it can be cool too!! Being dogmatic about photo's and art ..well lets just call it limiting.

It is way too dark. I recommeded on using the flash~ I understand why people don't usually take shoot using flash but by the help of correct lightning, your photo will do fine.

lay on your stomach and get a low angle of them, which will make the skater look like they are soaring off the ramp, bench or whatever. And never shoot from the backside if a person, backs of people don't make for good photographs.

the most important thing is that you enjoy what you are doing, try also to experiment with all situations from low down to panning also changing your settings. When you get the picture you want and you are happy with it that is the most important thing. Enjoy your camera and don't be afraid of using it. Don't stop putting up your pictures so others can see them and give you their advice on how to improve as that is how we all learn after all.
