Default Le Mans Legends 2009 [Set]

Hi there, I went to Le Mans this year for the 24 Heures Du Mans. I took a few images of the real racers, but my best results were from the Le Mans Legends race, which takes place on the morning before the actual 24 hour enduro. This is the best of the set I took.

Porsche 911

Works best as part of this set.

EXIF:
Camera: Nikon D70s
Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture: f/18.0
Focal Length: 120 mm
Exposure: +0.55
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

I like the image clarity in these photos, especially because I was only using a 24-120mm lens from up on a hill (obviously the images are cropped, but they haven't lost too much definition I hope). I chose the Porsche to represent the set as it has all the purest image quality, and the highlight on the door pillar makes me smile. However, I do not like the angle the photos are taken from. This would be improved if I had a better lens.

I was trying to achieve a nice photograph with a sense of drama, do you think I have achieved this?

I think you are a lucky persone to be able to see those legends race, i wish i would be there. personally i prefer the Jag type D that represents to me the real classics of Lemans and launched Jag into the world of sports cars.

For your shot,

I think you acheived a nice panning effect that shows some speed of the cars. On this small a picture, we cannot see if there is a loss of resolution but i would assume so depending on the amount of crop you did. If you were to make a big print of the cars to put on your wall, i think you would see a lot of pixels and noise. The camera is a 6.1mp so is not suitable for extreme crops. The angle to see the cars is nice but i would have tryed to get them at another location because of the sun position, you get a long shadow at the back and not much lighting on the wheels that may be nice to see. You could have tryed some cornering shots that would be nice too.

Comments well received gentlemen, and thank you for critiquing. I will try and blag myself a Press pass to get on the other side of the catch fencing for some better angles next time

Thats one of the bad things about just being a "regular joe" at any sporting/racing event. Your stuck with just the one lateral shot for the most part. It's so hard to get the interesting shots if you can't go out near the track.
Really sucks for me when trying to shoot MX/SX
