Yea..I've had to shoot those before. At least your background is nicer. Not much you can do, except use the shallow DOP. All I'd do differently is crop tighter on the right and left hand sides.

You did a good job with this. I shoot a lot of dogs, mostly obedience, rally and conformation. At the shows, except for the posed shots of winners, you really have to make the best of what you have to work with and I think you did that in this image. Good timing too, you got the shot right when the dog hit the sleeve and before the helper did freeze.
