Default Skateboarding (BS 5-0 on a Quarter Pipe)

Photobucket

Nikon D70s
17-28mm Fisheye Super Wide Angle (set at 17mm)
AP: f/4
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/4000

Is it just me or is his face blurry? Is my shutter speed too fast or could that be a result of my aperture size? how can i fix this?

I think this is really nice. Timing looks good, framing is really solid, nice job including the shadow. At the size you posted, and the full-size on your photobucket, I can't tell his face is blurry. Without flash you need a very fast shutter speed for skating, but 1/4000 is excessive. You could've easily dropped to 1/2000s and f/5.6 and been fine. 1/1000 probably would've even been ok.

Having said all that about the exposure, his face is underexposed. The sky is exposed just how I'd want it though so I'd say you have to get a flash in there and brighten up his face a little bit. Of course then all your current settings go out the window and you'll be shooting at like f/16 or something and then you definately won't worry about DOF.

EDIT: Could you do me a favor and check out my image for critique? It didn't get many responses and I'd like someone who's into skating to comment on it.

Needs a tighter crop and some color enhancement.
