Default Trackday at Zuhai Racetrack

DSC_0861.jpgI am a beginner into DSLR.(Just got my D90 2 days prior to the trackday).

My friend was telling me that the Porsche was out of focus. But I am not sure if it is the focus or the movement.

Also, what do you guys think of the background or composition? I tried not to fill the frame too much as I want show the track also.

Thanks for your critiques.

I find the shot interesting, i am not shure about the blur of the car, i think if you wanted to get the car sharp, you would have needed to get a much faster shuter speed. if you wanted to go for a panning, then your speed was great but you need to follow the car to get it into focus ( easier said than done because i have not tryed for myself.)

I was trying with auto focus and manual focus. But I am not sure whehter if it is the focus or is me panning it? Is the shutter speed too slow to keep the car from blurring? Or is it technique?

That shutter speed is really quite slow, even for panning you could go to about twice that and still show good motion. I think the problem here might be that you aren't tangent to the cars motion - the car isnt simply moving left and right relative your position, it's also moving towards you. So to pan properly you would have to pan left while simultaneously zooming out. Certainly a faster shutter speed while panning would negate this somewhat. I don't think focus should be an issue considering the distance/focal length/aperture combination you used - DOF will be huge so focus point only really needs to be "close enough". Best technique with that combination might be autofocus at the distance the car will approximately be, tun af off and shoot when the car gets there.

Composition: I would crop tighter to get the fence out of the bottom and drop the car into the lower right third intersection while still showing the track and the blue/white barrier
