Default Does an excited hug at gymnastics count as sports photography?

I quickly grabbed this whirling shot of the girls, the background was beautiful...they were totally oblivious to the camera.

wondering if the background, even though the colours are great, distract from the shot or add to it.

also - does is really capture their elation. i was there, so i knew how happy they were...

would it perhaps of been better to slow it down and show some movement?

appreciate any feedback...

thx, sue

I think the background actually adds to the picture rather than distracts. It is a great capture. The girl in red has obviously achieved something special to react in this manner.

Thanks for sharing

What happens on the sidelines is just as important as what happens on the field. Often it's the most important and meaningful part of the drama that is sporting competition. Nice shot, by the way. The circles in the background make a terrific frame, and it's a nice exposure, too. Did you take others? Compositionally, I'm wondering if any of the others were better in that the subjects might have been in somewhat less awkward-looking postures. This B+ photo could easily be an A+ if they didn't look a little like they were falling out of the frame.
